Manifestos: Architecture for a New Generation – Lunch & Learn

17 June 2020

This special edition of the Design Museum’s Lunch & Learn series on Instagram TV marks the launch of the second edition of the ‘Manifestos: Architecture for a New Generation’ project, together with the Design Museum. Now an annual collaboration, the project highlights work by an emerging generation of voices in architecture who are shaping a new future for London.

The challenges that London poses to young people are shaping the boundaries of architecture and what it means to be an architect in this city. Precarious working conditions, cuts to public services and facilities, social discrimination, and now the repercussions of Covid-19 are just some of the defining parameters facing young people today. In London, they present urgent and complex spatial challenges for the city and its future urban life.

In response to these conditions, the project showcases a selection of emerging voices - each nominated by different established architects, writers and educators – and their radical manifestos that are expanding the parameters of what architecture can be, who London is for and what its future holds.

As part of this collaboration, all selected manifestos are exhibited as a series of short films across the LFA’s and Design Museum’s digital channels. You can view each manifesto by clicking on the videos below.

This virtual lunchtime session was hosted by Ibiye Camp on IGTV, one of the nominees from the project. Ibiye led a creative workshop for viewers to take part and develop their own design manifestos from home, through drawing and making.
