The good, the bad and the ugly!

Hello! So here we are, already midway through the London Festival of Architecture. Having just moved to London a year ago, it’s great to be taking part in this year’s event. The programme is packed to the gunnels, it’s just unfortunate I can’t take a month off to see it all!

A naturally inquisitive [nosey] Architect, I’m always wondering about the place in which I live – both how it came to be and what it might become. My drawings attempt to make sense of a place and a selection of them are on display at the DreamSpace gallery. My hope is that the exhibition will encourage Londoners and visitors alike to draw what London means to them, the good, the bad and the ugly! Everybody’s perception of their surroundings is different, but to me, that’s what makes a big city like London such a fascinating place to be, and draw.

Highlights of the festival for me will be those which help me to understand London and its Architecture better. Amongst others, I plan to go to the Annual Wren Talk to learn about the Great Fire, a story of the blaze and the rebirth which followed. Hollar’s map of 1667, which shows the aftermath has long been a fascination.

I’m also intrigued by an exhibition at the Calvert Gallery called The Demolition Project, part of their Power and Architecture series. The installation invites visitors to demolish any place or building they desire, giving their reasons for doing so. A map of holes, if you will.
