London Festival of Architecture invites emerging and established academics, researchers, and practitioners whose transformative work explores the role of creative practices in shaping the identity of our cities to apply for participation in the first London Festival of Architecture symposium. Churchill recognised the connection between architecture and identity when he said ‘we shape our buildings and afterwards our buildings shape us’. Whether consciously or not, people identify with their surroundings, and architecture sits at the intersect between collective and individual identity. We will be welcoming proposals from architects, students, designers, artists, curators and anyone whose work critically examines the theme of ‘identity’ and what it means for architects, architecture, and most of all, for every urban citizen.
The London Festival of Architecture celebrates London as a global hub of architectural experimentation, practice and debate. The festival returns to the capital from 1-30 June 2018 with a lively and diverse programme of public events across London exploring the theme ‘identity’. The London Festival of Architecture began in 2004, and has since grown to become Europe’s biggest annual architecture festival. The festival attracts a vast public audience – 400,000 people in 2017 – and a global media audience of millions. The vast majority of events are free, and are staged by a core festival programming team working alongside architecture and design practices and practitioners, leading cultural and academic institutions, artists and many others.
The successful applicants will be invited to present their selected work at the London Festival of Architecture conference in June 2018. The conference will be divided into thematic streams facilitating different angles to the dialogue.

• The deadline for the submission is midday, 12 February 2018. Submissions received after time this will not be considered.
• Please send expressions of interest in a PDF format to: admin@londonfestivalofarchitecture.org with the email heading “LFA Call for Papers”, followed by your name.
• The submission should be no more than 500 words.
• You will receive an email confirming the receipt of your submission.
