Changes and Challenges

I am a London-based curator with an interest in 20th and 21st Century design and architecture.  In my current role as Design Curator at Coin Street Community Builders my work is focused on shaping a cultural programme of activity at the riverfront landmark of Oxo Tower Wharf. In my former position as Associate Curator at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (ICA), I worked closely with a range of artists and designers  on a number of exhibitions including; Radical Disco: Architecture and Nightlife in Italy 1965–1975 (2016); Shout Out! UK Pirate Radio in the 1980s (2015); Whose Gaze is it Anyway? (2014) and Cybernetic Serendipity: a Documentation (2014). The notion of ‘community’ (LFA’s chosen theme of 2016), amidst the whirlwind of perpetual changes and challenges taking place across London’s urban landscape, is undoubtedly an urgent and pertinent issue to address. I am interested to see how this year’s varied programme will tackle such a contested topic. Highlights for me include; a day-long festival of the art, culture and architecture addressing the refugee crisis organised by the Architecture Foundation at the Barbican, the Architecture on TV season at the BFI and the Community Consequences exhibition by Projects Office at Oxo Tower Wharf.
