Focus on Polish Perspectives

In a series of short lectures online top academics will discuss several lesser-known aspects of Polish architecture. The project aims to re-discover the Polish urban landscape and celebrate its diversity.

Dr Jane Hall, RCA, will speak about the long-overlooked women's contribution to architecture, highlighting the most important female architects of the twentieth century such as Jadwiga Grabowska-Hawrylak - the author of some strikingly sculptural high-rise housing blocks in Wrocław in the 1970s.

Dr Michał Murawski, UCL, will focus on the most important examples of architectural 'resistance movement' in Warsaw which emerged in response to Stalinist policy in 1950s. He will also compare the situation in Soviet Russia at a similar time and analyse the fate of the late 1950s and early 1960s modernism in Warsaw today.

Dr Urszula Szulakowska, Leeds University, will talk about highlights of the architecture in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and co-existence between ethnic and religious groups in the 15th and 16th centuries.
