The School of Sufi Teaching has opened a new zawiya, a centre of Sufi and Islamic-based learning, in Bethnal Green in East London. The zawiya is the first of its kind in Europe with design input from an international group of architects, artists and craftspersons who have woven Islamic design principles into the context of the Globe Town Conservation Area where the new centre is located. The architectural design of the building is conceived as a space that reflects the transformative power of the spiritual practices in a contemporary context. The centre aims to bring together a diverse audience to explore the relationship between architectural space and spiritual experience.
The School will hold an online architectural presentation via Zoom about the building as part of the London Festival of Architecture 2020 on Saturday 20th June at 2pm (GMT) where the public can hear the architect Nevine Nasser and from artist/ designers Katya Nosyreva, Citi Youssof, Saba Kafil and Garry Doherty talk about the design process, followed by Q&A.
To attend the online event on 20th June, email schoolofsufiteaching@gmail.com or call/message Saif Osmani on 07915 234 404 to receive the Zoom meeting and ID codes.
