#2 Marcie Larizadeh : Tiling, London Underground

01 December 2020

#2: Marcie Larizadeh, Associate Director at Squire & Partners, specialising in bespoke and crafted projects in London and internationally.

London is a wonderfully eclectic city. And the texture of our buildings lends something to the bigger fabric of the city. As we’ve all been locked down and cooped up, perhaps like us you’ve been paying more attention to the surfaces around us.

For Texture in London, a project by LFA and Equitone, we asked some of our friends and partners to tell us about their favourite textures in London and record a short video explaining the reasons for their nomination.

For her nomination, Marcie selected Tiling, as it appears within the London Underground.

"For Londoners, the tube is a central part of our life in the city, and an integral part of our visual and sensual experience of the tube is the tiling. Tiling is a material that unifies the complex structures and routes, and provides human scale and grade to an environment that at times can feel frenetic and vast. It is a robust, humble and affordable material that can absorb the messiness of advertising, services and structure; it can inform and direct; and it can enhance the life of staff and commuters as they pass through on their journeys." - Marcie
